Chapter 16x: The Glorious Ascension

Opening

narrator
Mordred points towards the Saint's Tower and reveals a legendary weapon lies there.
The Saint's Tower was once a place of worship for Saint Elimine.
In the tower lay numerous sacred relics relating to her.
However, the templars, St. Elimine's guardians, lie in wait at the tower.
The templars are a force of peacekeeping, only taking up arms to defend the clergy.
Among the priests at the tower is Yoder, one of St. Elimine's most respected bishops...
yoder
...So they have come here? My goodness...
Surely they would not stoop so low as to massacre men of the cloth...

No, but that is foolish wishful thinking. These people have done worse...
We shall have to fend for ourselves.

Catalena!

catalena
Yes, Bishop Yoder!
yoder
Please, gather the templars.
We will make our stand. They shall not take Aureola for themselves!
catalena
At once, bishop!
(Catalena leaves.)
yoder
I am loath to do this, but... Alas, it must be done.
Elimine... I shall utilize your sacred magic on this day.
Pray forgive me for the sins I shall commit with it...
galle
We have arrived, my king. The Saint's Tower.
zephiel
Very well. We kill all the guards and retrieve the legendary weapon.
This shall be your first mission as Wyvern General, Galle.
It is a great responsibility. I expect only your best.
galle
Thank you for placing your trust in me, Your Majesty.
(Galle leaves.)
carlyle
...Grrr...
zephiel
Cease your seething, you fool.
Do not forget. Should you make a single mistake, your prince--
carlyle
I know! I know... Do not say it.
I will fight for you. What does it matter?
I have no love for Etruria. Or any other country, for that matter.
I love only one... And for his sake, I shall serve you, King Zephiel.
zephiel
Go, and prove it.
galle
So I shall...
zephiel
All troops, advance!
(Zephiel marches out.)
galle
...Am I truly to swing my liege's sword in service to his killers?
I haven't even seen the prince's face... They could be lying to me.

No, but he has to be alive! He has to!
I have to believe he lives, or I have no reason to go on...!

Hello! It's me, Ruben. No, not that Ruben - the creator of the hack!
I have a VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE for you.

If you have recruited every character, you now have 52 units.
This is the hard limit allowed by FE6. From here on, including this map's units...
Any units you recruit will DISAPPEAR when you reset (or suspend) the game.
There are two things you can do about this:
1. Never reset the game. Use save states to save and resume without resetting.
2. The units that disappear on reset are the ones at the bottom of the unit list.
New units are automatically placed at the bottom of the list when they join.
Do NOT reset until you get to the next preparations screen.
There, select the new units for deployment. This will pull them to the top of the list.
Even if you don't deploy them afterwards, they will be safe when the game is reset.
This way, if you so wish, you can sacrifice benchwarmers instead of the new units.
I only recommend you don't let Idunn disappear. Anyone else is fine at this point.

That is all. Please forgive the inconvenience. FE6 is a really annoying game to hack.

Enemy Turn 1

catalena
I shall lead the vanguard, Bishop Yoder!
They will rue the day they opposed Elimine!
yoder
May Elimine watch over you, Catalena...
(Yoder leaves.)
catalena
(smiles) ...This is my chance.
I will truly prove my devotion to the Goddess today.
Everything... Everything for the Goddess!

Conversations

Randy & Carlyle

carlyle
Prince Myrddin... I do this for you...
That I may see your angelic face once more...
randy
That is an impressive blade you carry, swordsman.
A runesword, if my eyes do not deceive me.
I would advise not getting killed by it.
It traps the souls of its victims.
...Then harnesses their essence and turns it into lifeblood.
carlyle
What?
randy
A skilled enough swordsman is invincible with one such blade...
But it is nowhere near the level of my light brand.
With my sword, I can choose your death.
Will you die by the blade... or by its light?
carlyle
What are you talking about?
I took this blade from the king's cold, dead hands.
It didn't do him any good...
randy
Well, I did say "skilled enough," did I not?
carlyle
......
randy
Do not look so sullen. You won't fall to my sword.
You are an ally. Its wrath is not for you to suffer.
Let us fight side by side, my friend.
As fellow wielders of blades unmatched!
carlyle
I... I-I just wanted... to be with my prince...

Scott & Windham

scott
Wow... Now this is one impressive place.
windham
Is it not? I never expected I'd come back here...
scott
I never expected I'd ever BE here.
What does a man have to do to get a house like this?
windham
(smiles) Hahaha! Haha... That's rich.
(serious) This was the home of a goddess, my friend.
scott
Yes... Realistically, I think I'd settle for a run-of-the-mill mansion.
A couple maids, a butler, personal cook... you know, the works.
windham
You are not like most brigands I've met, sir...
scott
Scott. And I wasn't always a landlubbin' cutthroat.
I used to be captain of my own ship.
The scourge of the seas! No merchant vessel was safe from us!
Why, once we even raided a military ship. Heh, those were the days...
windham
If I may be so bold, could I inquire as to what happened?
scott
The resistance.
They pretended to be merchants. They killed half my crew and sunk my ship.
The other half blamed me, but before a mutiny could happen...
We were ambushed at the shore. Half the remaining half died then.
After that we just did what we could to keep our heads... Till you all showed up.
That's when I decided it was about time I cut my losses and started over.
windham
Some would call you a coward.
scott
And what do I care? I can get a new ship and a new crew.
My reputation can be restored, as well. Not my life.
I did not get as far as I did by being a reckless moron.
windham
(smiles) Hahaha... You and I are rather alike, I daresay.
(serious) My parents all but forced me to enter the clergy.
But I always felt constrained by the unbending faith.
I soon decided to disappear, and travel the world freely.
I have learned much about matters earthly and heavenly alike.
Do you know the most important thing I learned, Scott?
scott
Yeah?
windham
This place is nothing but stone, and the goddess, a mere woman.
Look out for oneself. That is all that truly matters.
scott
Hah! Some would call you a heretic.
...You'll make it far in life, friend.
windham
Haha, perhaps.
Let us remember each other when we make it big, shall we?
scott
Somehow I feel that was your intention from the start...
(smiles) But fair enough. I'd rather be your friend than your foe, sir...
windham
(smiles) Windham. At your disposal... Hahahaha.

Guerrero & Dory

dory
(smiles) Guerrero! My brother, how are you?
guerrero
I am weeeeeeeeeeeeeeell.
I have been praaaaaaaaaaaaying to the Goooooooooooooooddess.
Since we're in her hooooooooouse and aaaaaaaaaaaaaall.
dory
(serious) Yer religious? That's news to me!
guerrero
(serious) I don't go to chuuuuuuuuuurch. But I praaaaaaaaaay.
Someeeeeeeeetimes.
dory
Hmm, well, what are ya praying for?
guerrero
For eeeeeeeeeeveryone in the woooooooooorld.
For peeeeeeeeeeeeeace. That's what I pray fooooooor.
dory
(smiles) Still a real kind-hearted sort, are ya Guerry?
I'm proud to be yer big bro!
guerrero
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks.
I'm also praying for yooooooooou. For your sooooooooooooul.
dory
(frowns) Bah... Don't waste your prayers on me, Guerry.
My soul's doomed. I'll get what's comin' to me sooner or later.
guerrero
You have chaaaaaaaaaaaanged. You're not eeeeeeeeevil anymore.
dory
Eh... Maybe, but that don't erase all the pillagin' I did back in the day.
The folks I smashed to pieces with my bloody axe...
I'm just tryin' to do the right thing, until my retribution comes.
See if I can't do a bit of good at the end, after all the bad I did.
guerrero
You're trying to redeeeeeeeeeeeem yourself. That's goooooooooooood.
I'm sure the Goddeeeeeeeeeeeess agrees with meeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
dory
...And yet, helpin' this army... Is it truly the right thing?
Is this redemption, or am I just piling up more evil?
I dunno, Guerry... I just dunno.
guerrero
Who knoooooooooooooooows. We just tryyyyyyy our beeeeeeest.
That's aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall we can doooooooooooooooooooo.
dory
I guess you're right, Guerry.
(smiles) I'm so glad you're my brother! It's all you, man.
You inspired me to become better. You're my hero!
guerrero
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaank yooooooooooooou.
I love you toooooooooooo.
dory
Awright! Enough gloom and doom!
Let's brighten up this dreary tower with a dance!
(Dory dances.)
guerrero
Let me tryyyyyyyyyyyy.
(Guerrero dances.)
dory
Wow! That's SUPER good! Ya been practicin'?
guerrero
A liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle. I obseeeeeeeerved you.
I'm not as goooooooooooood as yooooooooou, thoooooooough.
dory
Hehehe... You'll get there quick, Guerry!

Ruben & Ruud

ruben
Heeey...
ruud
Recognized me, did you?
ruben
(smiles) Ruud! It is you!
Still in the army, are you, old dog?
ruud
(smiles) In a way. I'm more surprised to see you here.
I thought you were living the deserter's good life!
ruben
Deserting alone doesn't fill the belly. I'm a merc now.
One of the best in the land, if I do say so myself.
ruud
One of the best, eh? Should I take your word for it?
I was under the impression Ilian mercenaries were the best...
ruben
(frowns) Pah! Those freezing braggarts wish they could tame a wyvern like me.
Frost here is as much a weapon as my axes are.
He could munch on a manakete himself if I needed him to!

(smiles) 'Sides, you're not too shabby yourself, are you, Ruud?
Look at that armor! That's some quality metals, my friend.
You can't buy that on an army soldier's salary.

ruud
Too true. I too work as a sellsword now. My story is similar to yours.
In fact, dare I say, your bold departure inspired me.
I realized how much more money there was to be made freelancing!
ruben
Heheheh... I'm honored. Really.
(serious) Good thing not many more folks were... inspired, though.
Competition's stiff enough in our line of work as is!
ruud
(serious) You said it.
I'd advise you don't bite off more than you can chew.
I may just be tempted to let you croak.
(smirks) It'd mean more work for me! Hahahaha...
ruben
(grins) Hah! And you be careful to listen to your own advice!
Don't want to find yourself dying an ironic death.
ruud
Guess we'll see who dies first. But, Ruben?
ruben
Yeah?
ruud
If we're both still alive at the end of this battle, let me treat you to a drink.
ruben
Only if you let me return the favor after!
ruud
You got a deal.

Windham & Catalena

catalena
Godless pawns, die!
You are a festering wound in the flesh of the world!
Die, and let it heal!
windham
I suppose talking it over is out of the question?
catalena
...Hold! You are a priest, are you not?
What are you doing with these execrable miscreants?!
windham
Why, I am preserving the faith.
catalena
What?!
windham
Think it over for a moment.
Yoder and his stubborn fools will die here, to the last.
There is no stopping Bern...
catalena
The unrighteous shall never win!
windham
...And if righteousness lies not with the church?
catalena
Eh...?
windham
You sound like a truly devoted believer.
Now, ponder this: The tower falls as we speak.
Could it not be, then, that St. Elimine desires our victory?
catalena
That's... That's just...
...O Goddess, if only you would send me a signal!
Let your humble servant Catalena know what you desire!
windham
(Hmm... What to do...)
(Ahh, there's an idea... as long as she doesn't notice...)
(Windham discreetly casts a spell.)
catalena
...!
A ray of blessed light! Where did it come from...?
windham
I know not!
It must be... the Goddess herself, illuminating your path!
catalena
The light pointed towards the king of Bern...
(smiles) ...Yes, Goddess! I understand! Thy will be done!
(Catalena charges off.)
windham
(grins) Hahaha! Haha... Poor naive fool.
(frowns) ...O-Oh dear. It appears the king believed he was being attacked.
I had better make myself scarce before he arrives here...

Orlo & Catalena

catalena
Unclean souls, your executioner awaits!
Repent, before your vile sins pour out of your black hearts and consume you!
orlo
Ah, so devoted... It is quite admirable.
I am Bishop Orlo, at your service.
catalena
...! You!!
I remember you... You were excommunicated!
You are the worst manner of sinner!
Your death cannot come soon enough!
orlo
Are these the lies Yoder has fed you, faithful protectors?
Tsk, tsk... How ignoble.
catalena
How dare you speak the name of the venerable Bishop Yoder!
orlo
I dare, for I committed no wrong.
Yoder was envious of my dedication to the gods above.
He believed I was closer to the heavens than he, and so...
He sought to cut my holy ties to the lords by force.
But earthly disgrace is of no consequence.
I am ever an envoy of the beyond. Now and forever.
catalena
Is that how you would disguise the blackness of your heart?!
orlo
Ask yourself then. Why do I still stand?
The gods are omnipresent and overpowering.
My feeble human might pales in comparison to theirs.
How come I have not yet been smitten?
There is only one explanation...
catalena
...The Goddess wishes for your survival...
orlo
Quite unlike the templars, whose heads roll as we speak.
But I believe you are different, my dear friend.
Holy providence set you on my path for a reason.
That I may grant you salvation from an ignominious end.
What say you? Does this humble servant have your trust?
catalena
That's... That's just...
...O Goddess, if only you would send me a signal!
Let your humble servant Catalena know what you desire!
orlo
Come now. You must know well that is not how it works.
You will receive no signals, for the gods count on your faith.
Do you truly believe, Catalena?
catalena
(smiles) ...Yes. Yes, Goddess, I understand!
If thy will is for me to join Bern, then so I shall!
(Catalena charges off.)
orlo
...Heh heh heh... Zealots are so easy.
Worry not, little lamb... I shall open your mind in due time.
You will discover a world your dear goddess would never let you see...

Martel & Catalena

catalena
Unbelievers who oppose all that is holy, fall!
The Goddess extends you the mercy of a--
......
martel
Well? Do continue.
I would not wish to wage battle without hearing your final words!
catalena
You... Father Valdez!
You live!
martel
E-Excuse me?!
catalena
(smiles) I would recognize that golden robe anywhere!
It's you, Father Valdez! We all thought you had perished...
martel
I, ah... Er...
catalena
(frowns) Do you not remember me? It's me, Father! Catalena!
martel
Ahem, yes! Naturally! I had to disappear for some time...
I was pursued by, uh... The enemies of the faith.
But now I have returned... Yet, I don't understand!
Why do you fight with the enemies of the faith!?
catalena
T-The enemies of the faith!?
Surely you're not accusing Bishop Yoder of heresy!?
martel
I am, my child.
I saw him. I caught him, uh... Praying to a different goddess?
(Catalena balks.)
catalena
That's impossible! There must be some misunderstanding...!
martel
'Fraid not. I mean, I fear not, my child.
Then, upon discovering me, he attempted to kill me!
I knew I could never hide from him, so I had to fake my death.
But the time has come. Retribution is well past due!
Will you stand by my side, Catalina, and serve the forces of good?
catalena
That's... That's just...
...O Goddess, if only you would send me a signal!
Let your humble servant Catalena know what you desire!
martel
Well, uh... Is my word not enough? I am one of the enlightened!
I am a preacher of the heavens! My word is their word!
Surely you must understand this, Catalana! I mean, Catalena.
catalena
...Yes. Yes, I do! Thank you for showing me the path, Father Valdez!
Yoder... Justice will be served today!
(Catalena charges off.)
martel
...Well, well. It appears I have just recruited a new ally.
(smiles) Hah hah hah... That was brilliant! The king is sure to be pleased.
And to think I just grabbed these robes off the garbage...
Well, clearly there was a sprinkle of truth somewhere in there.
I think your dear Valdez did in fact fake his own death.
Can't say I blame him for wanting to escape you lot!

Yoder

Combat

yoder
Higher powers than I shall judge you in due time.
Repent now, or forever suffer the wrath of the divine!

Combat w/ Orlo

yoder
Orlo... I suppose I should not be surprised.
For someone like you, Bern must feel like home.
orlo
Ahh, Bishop Yoder. I've yet to thank you, yes?
Thank you for punishing my faith...
With excommunication! Public humiliation!
yoder
You have no faith. You are a deeply selfish man.
You only shield yourself behind a warped idea of "faith."
There is no salvation for one so wicked as you.
orlo
(smiles) 'Tis not your place to judge, my friend.
Let us see which of us do the gods favor today!

Combat w/ Windham

yoder
Windham!
I feared you had been killed somewhere.
But you had joined the forces of evil instead...
windham
(smirks) Hahaha! Haha... Ahh, that's rich.
Yoder, I merely joined the winners.
Us priests have no obligation to anyone.
By joining the Bernese, I am preserving the faith!
What good will it do for the clergy to be wiped out here?
yoder
So you say, but I can see through your veil of lies.
You only care about yourself.
You joined Bern to further you station!
You disappoint St. Elimine, Windham...
windham
(scowls) What do you know, you self-righteous old fool?!

Enough of this! Face me!
Let's see if your precious faith saves you now!

Combat w/ Catalena

yoder
Catalena?! You betray us?
catalena
I betray nobody, Bishop Yoder.
I answer to higher powers than you.
...Forgive me. But this is the way it has to be.
As ordained by the Goddess herself!
yoder
Catalena...
What could they possibly have said to you...

Death

yoder
And so... the light fades... from this world...

Ending

zephiel
A legendary tome of light...
I suppose it is an appropriate thing to find in the Saint's Tower.
galle
What next, my king?
zephiel
Next...?
(smiles) We have won, Galle. The world is ours.
All that we have to do now is find Guinivere.
galle
I am certain the troops we left at Aquileia will have found her by now.
Shall we return?
zephiel
(serious) Of course.

[From here, the default ending of Chapter 16 plays out.]
